Srinagar, Oct 07 (KNO): Candidates who appeared in the exams for the post of Fireman and Drivers in Jammu and Kashmir Fire and Emergency department, Wednesday set their ‘degrees on fire’ as a mark of protest against the alleged appointment of ‘blue eyed’ candidates in the department.

The slogan shouting aspirants holding placards which read “Munna Bhai MBBS or fireman/drivers and unearth paper scam” according to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) gathered at Press Enclave and staged a protest, demanding thorough probe into alleged appointment of blue eyed candidates in Fire and Emergency department.

The protesting candidates set their degrees on fire and threatened self-immolation in case the government showed any leniency in unearthing alleged paper scam ensuring appointment of school dropouts for 880 posts advertised back in 2013. “Fire and Emergency department issued notification for the post of fireman and drivers back in 2013 and since then physical and written test for these posts was conducted thrice. These exams were later cancelled due to falsity leaving us to run from pillar to post for justice,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a protester from central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

He alleged that only 8th and 10th pass candidates were selected while their name was dropped from the list for obvious reasons. He said the highly educated candidates were dropped and school dropouts were appointed. “We demand a thorough probe into this massive recruitment scam in the department and appeal to the Lieutenant Governor to act tough against the black sheep so as to save the future of highly qualified candidates from getting ruined.

Today, we burnt our degrees but in case the government failed to order a fair probe we will go for self immolation,” Tariq, another protester threatened—(KNO)
